Preface

I’m the daughter of an academic who once won a Citation Classic award. I have a self-inflicted expectation that before I put my thoughts out into the world, I should be immersed and fully knowledgable in the literature of the domain. I should be well-read and broadly informed, able to reference others’ work, and document fully the facts behind my experience before having any opinion or analysis of my own.

Well, sorry Dad, that’s not going to happen. It’s partly because I know it’s a fools errand to keep up with the velocity and complexity of the world that I want to write about and I don’t think it would make a difference to me anyway. I’ve decided to proceed, leave the comments open and look forward to hearing what you all have to say, whether it’s a disagreement, a correction or a reference to something I should read.

Why do I think I have anything interesting or novel to say? I’m not certain, of course, but I have had a career trajectory that, as I look back on it now, aligned and combined with changes and advances in the information management space that give me an interesting perspective and experience to draw upon. I’d like to share what I’ve experienced and my thoughts about it all and I hope it will be of interest to you.
